Roof Top Addition and Renovation, Apartment Building, Biel B

The sanitary installations of the building built in the seventies are completely renewed including all the kitchens and bathrooms of the 30 rental apartments. The windows and sun blinds are replaced and the colour scheme of the building is reworked according to the concept of the new roof top addition. The addition of two apartments is conceived as a mediator between the heterogeneity of the roof forms in the existing block. The curb roof of the new neighbouring building in the north and the pitched roof of the landmarked building in the west are woven together across the corner building by a roof form that twists itself from a curb roof into a pitched roof and, therefore, allows precise connections to its neighbours on both sides.
